How does the refund button work?

We need to make a refund to a client.

If i click the refund button on the money section what will happen?

Will it refund the whole amount?
or
Will it give me the option to select how much i want to refund?

  It would be really helpful if this could be used for a "part" refund of a payment by authorised staff. For example if a policy is cancelled mid term and only a proportion of the premium is due or there is a cancellation charge.
