Can I use an Excess field in an IF statement?

In a document I need to show an excess amount but only if that cover is applicable.  I am using the following syntax that does not seem to work:

## IF([MoneyRequired]='Yes',[Excess_1_Money],'N/A') ##

This makes me wonder if it is possible to use the Excess fields in an IF statement ?
