I have an existing domain name and would like to use it with SchemeServe instead of the supplied URL, how do I do this?

  A lot of people ask this, so we've put together a full guide below...

  Getting SchemeServe Ready

  Notify your account manager

  In order for us to associate your domain name with your account, please let your account manager know the full domain name you would like to use, e.g. "www.mycompany.com".

  Adding Your Secure SSL Certificate

  Option 1: If you do not have an existing certificate we can register one for you, just ask your account manager.

  Option 2: If you have an existing SSL certificate, you will need to back it up (including the private key) and send it to us securely. STOP! READ CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU E-MAIL ANYONE YOUR SSL CERTIFICATE! If you e-mail your SSL certificate unencrypted it could be intercepted by a malicious third party, rendering it useless for encrypting pages. Before you e-mail your certificate to us, first encrypt it carefully (with a strong password) with encryption software such as the free software TrueCrypt, found here: http://www.truecrypt.org/downloads.php

  We'll Configure Your Account

  Once we receive your SSL certificate and private key we will associate it with an IP address and make sure that IP address is set-up correctly for your SchemeServe e-mail to work (techie note: custom DNS/SMTP).

  Your account manager will then forward to you the IP address you need to give to your domain host in step 4 below...

  Pointing your domain name at SchemeServe

  Changing A record

  To use the custom URL www.mycompany.com, you must change the A record with your domain host.

  1. Sign in to your domain hosting service.
  2. Navigate to your DNS Management page. The location and name of this page will vary by host, but can generally be found in Domain Management or Advanced Settings.
  3. Find the A record settings and enter the following as the A value or alias: www
  4. Set the A destination to the IP address given to you by your account manager in step 3 above
  5. Save changes with your domain host

  Finally, let your account account manager know you have completed the final step so he can activate your new domain and SSL certificate.
